Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Hatteras rental home experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Hatteras rental home:

Reserving your vacation property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Booking in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many property management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Filter your rental search:

- If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.

Advice for a smooth stay:

- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few concerns.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- During check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
