Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Salvo vacation property experience:

Sticking to your rental budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area travel guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Begin by selecting vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Charming, Affordable, Pet Friendly, Semi-Oceanfront Cottage! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible online. If not, contact the host before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • If there's a particular Hatteras attraction you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.

Tips for a fantastic stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • Upon check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a fantastic stay? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
