Build a handsome resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles because Buxton's unique stores, eateries, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD car - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and, if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers).
The interior has been professionally decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

Tips and Tricks to get the best Buxton vacation rental experience:
When to book & When to go:
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hatteras area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to choose the best rental in Buxton:
- Choose a group leader, select your dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Dog-friendly townhouse with pool access, W\/D, AC & ocean views - walk to beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your trip.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
