Getting the best Hatteras vacation rental experience:

Sticking to a rental home budget:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
  • Reserve your rental home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning, picking, and booking your prefectvacation home:

  • Choose vacation dates and max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Observation Point: Prime Soundfront Location with Dock! Spectacular Sunsets! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. Otherwise, contact the host before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out which bed configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or applied to your agreement.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.

More considerations:

  • Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your . Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your trip.
  • Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
