Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. Booking your Hatteras vacation rental in Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain coupons for local tours and attractions.
Choosing and booking the rightrental home:
- To start, have your family agree to dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Starlights 3, OCEANFRONT, Extraordinary View! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your family.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local attractions.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
