Welcome to Sugar Dune! We are located at a unique, narrow section of Hatteras Island that is one row back from BOTH the beach and the sound. Our street is one of only a few places on the Outer Banks with access to both! Sugar dunes and cotton candy skies are just the cherry on top of this unique location--it's really the sweetest spot on the island! A trendy spot for wind/kitesurfing, kayaking, and SUPs on the sound side. The ocean side provides a amazing beach for kids (flat, gradual slope) and beachcombing. We are also about a mile from Ramp 49 for those who appreciate the ORV beach experience. About a mile to the ferry terminal for a day trip to Ocracoke. Whatever your favorite Hatteras Island experience, it’s close by!

THE SPACE
This is a new construction home constructed with your memorable holiday in mind! The unique location means you savor water vistas from every room! You’ll see the ocean from the common areas and the sound from the bathroom and two bedrooms. Bring your binoculars for a better look at the dolphins, bald eagles, egrets, herons, and other shorebirds that also call Sugar Dune home. This first floor bungalow is completely separate from a second floor owner’s living space. There is a separate entrance, separate HVAC (that you control), and upgraded soundproofing installation throughout. Not a good fit for sizable groups or nighttime owls (peaceful hours 10p to 8a, please) or those opposed to occasionally hearing us upstairs.

Kitchen
Full, eat-in kitchen (table for four) outfitted with everything you need to make a basic a meal at home.

Living Room
TV for streaming and vistas of the ocean. Basic cable also included.

Primary bedroom
Queen bed with vistas of the sound.

Second bedroom
Two twin beds and a desk (high speed WiFi). Vistas of the sound.

Bath
Generous vanity with plenty of counter space. Tub for the littles if you have them.

Laundry
Washer and dryer en suite for guests.

Appreciate a sunrise or sunset over the water from a private covered deck.

Parking
Covered parking for up to two cars. Let us know if you would require additional parking.

THE LOCATION
One row off the sound AND one row off the ocean. Access both through our community access points, both a fast walk from the home (about 100 yards walk to sound access and 200 yards walk to beach access).

About the Area

Located in Frisco, this vacation home is near the beach. Frisco Native American Museum and Graveyard of the Atlantic Museum are cultural highlights, and some of the area's activities can be experienced at Scotch Bonnet Marina and Village Marina. Frisco Mini Golf and Go Karts and Buxton Seafood are also worth visiting.

Strategies to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • To get the best value, consider shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.

Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is best for your family.
  • If there's a specific Hatteras attraction you are crazy about, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or might be applied to your agreement.

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Contact the property manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.

  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?

  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
