Welcome to Sugar Dune! We are located at a unique, narrow section of Hatteras Island that is one row back from BOTH the beach and the sound. Our street is one of only a few places on the Outer Banks with access to both! Sugar dunes and cotton candy skies are just the cherry on top of this unique location--it's really the sweetest spot on the island! A trendy spot for wind/kitesurfing, kayaking, and SUPs on the sound side. The ocean side provides a amazing beach for kids (flat, gradual slope) and beachcombing. We are also about a mile from Ramp 49 for those who savor the ORV beach experience. About a mile to the ferry terminal for a day trip to Ocracoke. Whatever your favorite Hatteras Island experience, it’s close by!

How to book the best vacation rental experience:
Finding your best deal:
- June, July, and August are high season in Frisco. To find the most suitable rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hatteras restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guides which include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose your dates and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. New Construction! Short walk to beach AND sound! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a specific Hatteras destination you crave, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
