Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
When to book a Hatteras rental home & When to go:
- To get the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your rental search:
- To start, have your group choose the best dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Oceanfront, Dog-Friendly House w\/ Shared Pool, Free WiFi, Ocean Views has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before booking your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your trip.
- If there's an individual Hatteras beach you crave, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
Tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Document any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
