Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation property experience:
Getting the best rental home value:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in the Hatteras area. Booking in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides which include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing the right Hatteras vacation home:
- First and foremost, have your group select trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Hatteras Village w\/ Water Views *Southside * 1 has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If not, call the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is right for your vacation.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Advice for your stay:
- Add the property manager's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of problems.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to stimulate more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
