If you're planning the ideal escape to the cape, then look no further than Yellowfin! The interior of this dog-friendly home away from home has been professionally decorated with a comfortable and fun beach decor. Here you'll savor all the amenities of a home such as a completely-equipped kitchen, two ceiling fans and central A/C that will keep you nice and cool during sunny days, a private washer/dryer combo, flatscreen TVs with cable, and even an outdoor shower to rinse off the sand after spending the day sunbathing.
Those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point (four miles) and if luck is on your side during the summer you may just pass a few sea turtle nests. Be careful to stay outside the barriers. Take a favorite location on Hatteras Island, build a handsome resort village and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles because Buxton’s shopping, eateries, and a trip to the light are very close.

Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Hatteras rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- To book the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for local tours and attractions.
Make a plan and choose yourrental home:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Dog-friendly duplex near the beach w/ pool access, washer/dryer, and central AC has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
- Document any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
