If you're planning the ideal escape to the cape, then look no further than Yellowfin! The interior of this dog-friendly home away from home has been professionally decorated with a comfortable and fun beach decor. Here you'll appreciate all the amenities of a home such as a completely-equipped kitchen, two ceiling fans and central A/C that will keep you nice and cool during sunny days, a private washer/dryer combo, flatscreen TVs with cable, and even an outdoor shower to rinse off the sand after spending the day sunbathing.
Those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point (four miles) and if luck is on your side during the summer you may just pass a few sea turtle nests. Be careful to stay outside the barriers. Take a favorite location on Hatteras Island, build a striking resort village and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles because Buxton’s shopping, eateries, and a trip to the light are very close.

Rental property booking tips:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Buxton. Book your rental in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose your dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Dog-friendly duplex near the beach w\/ pool access, washer\/dryer, and central AC has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is right for your family.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
More considerations for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your stay, record any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the property manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
