If you're planning the ideal escape to the cape, then look no further than Yellowfin! The interior of this dog-friendly home away from home has been professionally decorated with a comfortable and fun beach decor. Here you'll savor all the amenities of a home such as a entirely-equipped kitchen, two ceiling fans and central A/C that will keep you nice and cool during sunny days, a private washer/dryer combo, flatscreen TVs with cable, and even an outdoor shower to rinse off the sand after spending the day sunbathing.
Those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point (four miles) and if luck is on your side during the summer you may just pass a few sea turtle nests. Be careful to stay outside the barriers. Take a favorite location on Hatteras Island, build a gorgeous resort village and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles because Buxton’s shopping, eateries, and a trip to the light are very close.

Hatteras vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
When to go & When to reserve a Buxton rental home:
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. To find the most suitable rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting and booking a perfectvacation home:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Dog-friendly duplex near the beach w\/ pool access, washer\/dryer, and central AC has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Tips for your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of concerns.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
