Tips and Tricks to get the very best Hatteras vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer time is high season in Frisco. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your rental search:
- To start, have your family choose trip dates and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Dog-friendly, waterfront home w\/sound access, patio & WiFi - walk to the beach has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If not, email the property manager before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a fantastic time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
