Build a elegant resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles, because Buxton’s unique stores, eateries, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD car - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers). The interior of this pretty home has been completely updated and has all new furnishings, floor, linens, paint, and appliances, with comfortable and fun beach décor. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio, and you can check out the Cape Hatteras lighthouse during your stay. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

Getting the best Buxton vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Hatteras rental home:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Reserve your Hatteras rental property in the Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose dates and budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Dog-friendly townhouse with fast WiFi, shared pool, AC, W\/D & ocean views has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. If not, email or call the property management company before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many concerns.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
