Tips and Tricks to get the very best Hatteras vacation property experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. Reserve your rental home in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.

Finding the best rental home:

  • Begin by selecting potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Oceanfront, Dog-Friendly House w\/Free WiFi, Shared Pool, and Ocean Views has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
