Our top Rental booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. To find the largest vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which often include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Cozy beach house steps away from the Pamlico Sound in quiet neighborhood. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you book your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a particular Hatteras beach you love, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.

Tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • At Check-in, record any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
