Build a handsome resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles, because Buxton’s unique stores, eateries, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD car - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers).
Back at your vacation home, you'll be met by a completely updated townhouse. Boasting new furnishings, paint, appliances, linens, and floor, you're guaranteed to have a vacation you'll always remember. After a fun day out, relax in the living room and wind down with your favorite shows on the TV. The roomy, well-equipped kitchen ensures you'll have everything you need to make memorable meals or just modest snacks if that's all you're in the mood for. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio, ideal for rinsing off after frolicking in the sand earlier in the day. As the day comes to an end, choose from one of the comfortable bedrooms, all of which are equipped with TVs for your viewing enjoyment.
An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

How to book the best vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To get the largest vacation home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hatteras restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Gorgeous ocean-view townhouse with central AC, private W\/D, patio, & pool access has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a certain Hatteras attraction you crave, look for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- During check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic time? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
