Build a striking resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles, because Buxton’s unique stores, eateries, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD car - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers).
Back at your vacation home, you'll be met by a completely updated townhouse. Boasting new furnishings, paint, appliances, linens, and floor, you're guaranteed to have a vacation you'll always remember. After a fun day out, relax in the living room and wind down with your favorite shows on the TV. The roomy, well-equipped kitchen ensures you'll have everything you need to make memorable meals or just modest snacks if that's all you're in the mood for. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio, ideal for rinsing off after frolicking in the sand earlier in the day. As the day comes to an end, choose from one of the comfortable bedrooms, all of which are equipped with TVs for your viewing enjoyment.
An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

Our top Hatteras vacation rental home tips:
Getting the best value:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Hatteras area. To find the best vacation home within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning, selecting, and booking your prefectvacation home:

- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
