Pass the wasabi - it's Sushi time! This bespoke 4,900-square-foot, five-level sound-front home offers a spicy combination of Hatteras Island's best vistas, secluded privacy, luxury amenities, and water sports!

Every aspect of this home, from its hand-sanded wood decks to its unique leather furnishings, was designed to help guests appreciate their Outer Banks vacation. As of 2024, this home features a stainless steel refrigerator in the kitchen, soundfront erosion sills the entire length of the shoreline behind the home, a silver metal standing seam roof, all-new Pella windows, and all-new Pella sliding glass doors. A new hot tub, stainless steel gas range, and new toilets and heated tile floors were also installed. The new drywall, paint, HVAC vents, LED lights throughout, bathroom floor tiles, and linens ensure you'll have the vacation you've always wanted.

Sushi is on Pamlico Sound at the end of a historic private road in northern Buxton. Over 15 acres of pristine maritime forest and wetlands lie between this home and the Atlantic Ocean, with no other homes blocking the sound or ocean vistas. This unique location offers those striking over-water sunsets, sunrises, and moonrises that have helped make Outer Banks vacations famed, with the additional of the Cape Hatteras lighthouse in full view to the south. Sushi offers peaceful, no traffic noise, and a place where kids can safely discover the Outer Banks habitat. Sushi is equally well-suited and equipped for corporate retreats, with modern audio/video and internet systems and sizable bespoke seating areas in the library, great room, dining area, and game room. Guests come aboard Sushi through its massive ironwood front door.

For watersports, Sushi is one of the closest homes to the Canadian Hole, where colorful windsurfers and kiteboarders put on a great show just a few hundred yards to the north. Surfers and surf fishermen will savor the convenience of having The Point and southern beaches less than five miles away. The inshore/offshore guys have their choice of Hatteras and Oregon inlets to fish from. Scuba divers can check out the many offshore wrecks of the Graveyard of the Atlantic, including WWII German submarines.

Our top Buxton rental home tips:

How to get the best value:

  • Book your rental home in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • In the Hatteras area, The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local tours and attractions.

How to pick the best rental home in Buxton:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your dates, and choose a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Waterfront house with private hot tub, pool, ocean view, & AC - walk to dining has 7 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, call the host before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's a particular Hatteras attraction you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your contract.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
