- Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. - Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
