Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Hatteras vacation home experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Hatteras rental home:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Hatteras. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.
Planning, picking, and booking yourrental:
- Start by selecting the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Unobstructed Oceanfront Views- Elevator, Pool, Hot Tub, Theater Rm, Dog Friendly has 7 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property manager before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation family.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few problems.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
