OCEAN/SOUNDVIEW Avon – Kinnakeet Shores Resort – The enjoyment is all ours to introduce SUNSET PLEASURE, a majestic seven-bedroom/seven full- and one-half-bath home that promises to enthrall from sunrise to sunset with charmingly designed spaces, thoughtful amenities, and majestic vistas from ocean to sound.

Serenity surrounds this three-level home from its perch on a private lake. Savor the cross breezes that caress the enormous in-ground pool as you take a swim or dive into a good book from a poolside chair. Nearby is a 6-person hot tub, conveniently covered for relaxing soaks, no matter the weather. Take a break from the sun and heat up the competition in the ground level game room that features a pool table, foosball table, casino game table, arcade games, and a full wet bar. There is also a queen bedroom on this level next to a full hallway bath. Take the all-level elevator up to the first level and discover four more master bedrooms, all with private baths, three of which have access to the broad furnished deck. The second level reveals the remaining three bedrooms, also all with private baths and access to the deck.

The third level of this home is the pièce de rèsistance of the home’s communal spaces, an open layout where everybody can gather in extravagant comfort. The cavernous and well-equipped kitchen features a center prep island, giving avid cooks plenty of room to create family-favorite meals. There’s an eat-at counter, and a picnic table outside on a screened-in porch for fast snacks and breakfasts. A sizable dining table brings everybody together for those meals that will last well into the evening. Settle into the great room’s comfortable seating to catch your favorite shows and movies on one of the home’s 10 TVs, or getaway to one of the many furnished decks, including a rooftop crow’s nest to catch the greatest show of all — the sun setting the sky on fire as it sets into Pamlico Sound. Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, try changing your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.

  • If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.

  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
