Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- June, July, and August are high season in Avon. To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Hatteras vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guides contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning and picking a perfectvacation home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Oceanfront home with private hot tub, infinity pool, AC, decks & full kitchen has 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many issues.
- Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
- Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
