Finding the best vacation property experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hatteras area. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Some owners offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and picking the perfect Hatteras rental home:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Pelican Place Cottage- Short walk to beach- Community Pool & Spa has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you book the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is best for your vacation.
- If there's a certain Hatteras attraction you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of problems.
- Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
