How to get the best Avon vacation rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, try shifting your family's Hatteras vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area travel guides which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Make a plan and pick the rightrental home:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Waterfront Home w\/private W\/D, A\/C, Free WiFi, gas grill, & Shared Pool has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you book the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Tips for a wonderful stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the rental manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the property to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
