Tips for getting the perfect Avon vacation home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, consider shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your rental search:
- To start, have your family agree to trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Semi-Oceanfront home with direct access to the beach! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Considerations for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
