Strategies to get the very best vacation rental experience:
When to book a Hatteras rental home & When to go:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Hatteras area. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your rental search:
- Begin by choosing trip dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Luxury beach home with beach view, private hot tub, heated pool, & fireplace has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- If there's an individual Hatteras destination you crave, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Tips to have a terrific stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. text the rental manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
