Build a pretty resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest vacation units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are steps from the beachfront. Bring the bicycles because Buxton's unique stores, eateries, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD car - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and, if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers). The interior has been professionally decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental home experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- To get the best value, try changing your family's Hatteras vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Dog-friendly townhouse with ocean view, pool access, central AC & washer\/dryer has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas during check in. text the rental manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
