Tricks and tips for getting the best Hatteras rental home experience:
When to go & When to book:
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- To find the best value, try shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose and book yourvacation home:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Waterfront Home w\/ Private Hot Tub, Decks, W\/D & AC - 2 Blocks to the Beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, record any problem areas during arrival. Contact the host immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
