Rental property booking tips:
How to get the best rental home value:
- To get the most suitable vacation home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Hatteras attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and choosing a perfect Hatteras vacation home:
- Begin by selecting trip dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront home in Avon w\/ hot tub has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your vacation.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or could be applied to your invoice.
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the host right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
