Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation property experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guides contain offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose vacation week and max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. Waterfront House w\/ Private Hot Tub, Free WiFi, Water View, Shared Pool has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- During arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on great reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
