Welcome to Makai Sunrise, a semi-oceanfront bungalow where you will experience one of the greatest beaches on the OBX, and savor its gorgeous sunrises/sunsets right outside the front door.
Located in a peaceful beach-front neighborhood one lot off the ocean, Makai Sunrise's convenient beach access is located near the end of its driveway - a 30 second walk to the shore!
Striking rooms & 3 showers is just the start. Makai Sunrise offers everything needed for a day at the beach - or a sunburned day at home!
You will find handsome bedrooms with comfortable, cozy beds. The Avon Master suite, a sunrise themed room, offers a King bed and private bathroom with a walk in shower.
The three guest bedrooms include the Frisco - a surfing themed room with a Queen bed; the Buxton - a lighthouse themed room with a Queen bed; the Waves - an ocean wave themed room with a full/twin bed combo bunk bed. Three of the four bedrooms include a WIFI/Cable/Intelligent tv.
The Guest bathroom is a full size bathroom with a bathtub and shower. There is also the enclosed outdoor Salvo shower equipped with both hot and cold running water, often used as a third shower by guests.
The kitchen is a full functioning kitchen outfitted with silverware and cookware for the best of chefs, as well as crockpots, Airfryer, toaster, blenders, coffee pots, and much more..
The family room includes three full recliners, a couch, WIFI/cable/SMART TV equipped with all your favorite apps, and over 25 family board games to keep you entertained on a rainy (or sunburned) day.
The Hatteras Game Room and Rodanthe 5th bedroom is currently under construction. Originally contracted with a completion date of February 2024, it is extremely behind schedule with a hopeful completion date of summer 2024.
Makai Sunrise includes three decks. The bottom "Patio Deck" includes outdoor seating, charcoal and propane grilles, and a huge back yard. The "Mid Deck", outside of the main entrance to the home, also offers seating and a picnic table. The top balcony deck "Crows Nest" offers vistas of the Ocean - where you can experience the most elegant sunrises, and vistas of the Sound - for continued spectacular vistas of sunsets.
Makai Sunrise is a beautiful private beach bungalow home, not a "event home". Our vetting process focuses on family aligned and other responsible visitors who will take care of our home.

Strategies to get the optimal Hatteras rental home experience:
When to visit & When to reserve a Avon rental home:
- Summertime is high season in Avon. To find the best value, shift your trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Hatteras area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting the perfect rental home:
- Start by selecting your trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Makai Sunrise Beach Cottage 30 sec walk to beach has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- If there's an individual Hatteras beach you love, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make certain damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the property manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
