Tricks and tips to get the best Hatteras rental experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Hatteras area. Reserve your Hatteras rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Planning and choosing the rightrental:
- First, have your group commit to vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Beachfront, Oceanviews, Dog Friendly, Private Beach Access & Hot Tub has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property owner before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- If there's a certain Hatteras beach you are enamored with, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- If your group is bringing pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make certain no damages are linked to your stay, note any problem areas upon check in. Contact the rental manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
