Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Hatteras rental experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in Avon. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing a perfect Hatteras rental:
- Start by choosing your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Life's a Beach-Dog Friendly & SemiOceanfront! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before booking the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is best for your group.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Tips to have a wonderful stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the host right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
