Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- To find the best value, try shifting your family's Hatteras vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Waterfront home with ocean views, private pool, hot tub, & Tesla\/EV charger has 7 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your family.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Have a great stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the rental manager right away to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a great stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
