Tips and Tricks to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
Find your best deal:
- Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Booking your vacation property up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a discount.
- Property managers frequently offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select a group leader, select your dates, and select a budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Waterfront home with ocean views, private pool, hot tub, & Tesla\/EV charger has 7 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If not, contact the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to establish what is optimal for your family.
- If there's a particular Hatteras beach you simply love, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
Some things to know before you go:
- Add the property manager's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Document any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
