Our top Hatteras rental home tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is an excellent way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
- The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides that include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Ocean-view home with private outdoor pool, hot tub, central AC, tennis & decks has 7 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. Otherwise, contact the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's an individual Hatteras destination you crave, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Tips for a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- To ensure that damages are not attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the host right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to inspire more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
