Avon rental home booking tips and tricks:
Get the best rental value:
- To book the most suitable rental home for your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Hatteras attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts and property managers offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- First and foremost, have your group choose dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Waterfront home with theatre, private pool & hot tub - dog-friendly has 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before you reserve your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your vacation.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
