Tips to get the best Hatteras vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- To get the best value, change your family's Hatteras vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- First, have your family choose a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. The Docks Cottage - Hatteras Island, North Carolina has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your vacation family.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
