Tips to get the perfect Hatteras vacation rental experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- In the Hatteras area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- To book the best rental within budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite Hatteras restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local tours and attractions.
How to choose the best vacation home:
- Start by having your family choose the best dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your group requires. The Docks Cottage - Hatteras Island, North Carolina has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your family.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your contract.
- If there's a certain Hatteras attraction you long to visit, search for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
Some things to know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of concerns.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. text the host immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
