Hatteras vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- Summer months are high season in Buxton. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Choosing and booking your prefectrental:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Point Break Cottage- Steps to Beach- Community Pool & Spa has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your family.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Upon check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected everything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to propel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
