Tips and Tricks to get the best Hatteras vacation property experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. To find the most suitable rental within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hatteras restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
How to choose the best vacation home:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Brand-new dog-friendly coastal home with firepit, large balcony, sunny interior has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is best for your family.
- If there's a certain Hatteras destination you long to visit, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your family is bringing pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, note any problem areas during check in. text the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
