Vacation rental home tips:
Get the best value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal NC. Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties.
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing the perfect rental:
- Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Sea Star- Ocean Views- Steps to Beach- Community Pool has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your trip.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the property manager immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few problems.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
