Tips to get the best Hatteras rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hatteras area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First, have your group commit to a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. High Tide Top Floor Unit B Avon NC has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
- If there's a certain Hatteras attraction you simply love, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of difficulties.
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- During arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a wonderful time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
