Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation property experience:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- Summer time is high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, try changing your family's Hatteras vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many rental management companies supply Hatteras area travel guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and choose your prefectrental:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Single-level home 350 yards from the beach with sundecks & WiFi - 2 dogs OK has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or might be applied to your contract.
Know before you go:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to drive more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
