Tips to get the perfect rental home experience:
When to book a Hatteras rental & When to go:
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Rodanthe. Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guides that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Select dates and maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Oceanfront OBX Condo - mid-August Full Week Rental (sleeps 6) has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges applied to your invoice.
- If there's an individual Hatteras beach you long to visit, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
Some things to know before you go:
- Get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are away, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that no damages are linked to your visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
