Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental home experience:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- The sooner you can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To get the best rental within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Finding the best rental home:
- Choose vacation week and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. L'etoile de mer modern Beach House has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or might be applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
Tips for a great stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
- Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
