Tricks and tips to get the very best Hatteras vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Summertime is high season in Rodanthe. To get the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitor guides which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Choosing the perfect vacation rental:

  • Select your dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Dog-friendly house with private pool, W\/D, fireplace, central AC & porches has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before booking the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
