Strategies to get the perfect Hatteras vacation property experience:
Finding the best rental home value:
- Summer time is high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Hatteras trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides which will include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting the perfect rental home in the Hatteras area:
- Start by choosing trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Dog-friendly house with private pool, W\/D, fireplace, central AC & porches has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a particular Hatteras destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your . Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make certain damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas during check in. E-mail the property manager right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to propel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
