Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- Summertime is high season in the Hatteras area. To get the best value, consider shifting your family's Hatteras vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and choose your prefect Hatteras vacation home:
- Begin by choosing your a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Dog-friendly house with private pool, W\/D, fireplace, central AC & porches has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property owner before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
