How to book the best Hatteras vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To get the best value, try changing your family's Hatteras vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have coupons for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to pick the perfect rental:
- Begin by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Pet-friendly canalfront home in Hatteras w\/ hot tub! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
Know before you go:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
