Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Buxton vacation home experience:
When to book a Hatteras rental home & When to go:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are high season in Buxton. To find the most suitable rental within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- Some property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides that include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, selecting, and booking the right Hatteras rental home:
- Choose dates and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Lightkeepers Retreat is the closest rental to the Lighthouse and Cape Point. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the property management company before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your family.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to compel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
