Tips for getting the perfect Hatteras vacation home experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • In the Hatteras area, The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Buxton. Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Often, property management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning and picking the right Hatteras vacation home:

  • To start, have your group agree to dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Dog-friendly townhouse with pool, playground, basketball, beach access, deck, AC has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking

More tips for your visit:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. text the property manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
