Strategies to get the perfect Hatteras rental home experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal NC. To book the most suitable rental within budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and choosing the perfectrental:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Spiritual Sunrises, Glorious Sunsets, Timeless Memories – right on the Beach! has 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your vacation group.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
More considerations:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To ensure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the rental manager immediately to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental property while you're away! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a great stay? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
