Discover Brooks Island Refuge. It's your unique sound-front vacation destination. Cross a bridge to the modest neighboring island of five homes in Brigands Bay. Four sound-front tons on the tip of Brooks Island deliver privacy, impressive vistas, and sound-front water access. Drive your loaded cars into the windsurfing bay where there's plenty of room for rigged sails, kites, and boards. Level one has three bedrooms and a full bath. Level two is splendid living with 10-foot ceilings and a complete entertainment package. The great room is complemented by a completely-equipped kitchen, a breakfast bar, a formal dining area, a half-bath, and a screened porch with a hot tub. Look across the Pamlico Sound to the Canadian Hole from the third-story deck. Retire to level three to one of the two glassed-in main bedrooms, each with a bath, privacy, and tremendous vistas! Brooks Island Refuge is special in Hatteras because you are on the sound, but you have little close to you other than nature. There are many birds in the wetlands and there is a forested island close by. It is a peaceful rental surrounded by water and nature.

Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Summer time is high season in the Hatteras area. To find the best rental home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Hatteras attractions.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Choosing and booking your prefectvacation home:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to date ranges and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Waterfront House w\/ Sound View, Shared Pool, Private W\/D, Private Hot Tub has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.
Tips to have a fantastic stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. text the rental manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
