How to find the best Hatteras vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Hatteras area. To find the best rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hatteras area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by choosing your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Dog-friendly waterfront house with private pool, hot tub, ocean views & AC has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hatteras rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible online. If not, email or call the property manager before booking the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your group.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of problems.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
