Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Rodanthe vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer months are high season in the Hatteras area. Booking in Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the Hatteras area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Hatteras visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Choose vacation week and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Semi-Oceanfront Home with Hot Tub, Game Room, Theater, and Nearby Beach Access has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your trip.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your agreement.
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
