How to book the best Hatteras rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your vacation in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hatteras vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Many rental management companies supply Hatteras area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hatteras visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to pick the perfect rental:
- Select dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Updated home with ocean & sound views, screened porch, balcony, pool access has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you book the rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what is best for your vacation family.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Tips to have a great stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect your property!
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your visit, note any problem areas during check in. text the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
